MUNISING (WWJ) - One of the most dramatic winter landscapes in Michigan is being immortalized on a postage stamp.

The Grand Island Ice Caves in Lake Superior is featured on a new stamp being released in January. The U.S. Postal Service says the Ice Caves near Munising in the Upper Peninsula are impressive and especially dramatic in the winter, when lake water seeps into the crevices and caverns and forms ice curtains and icicles that hang like stalactites from ceilings.

The illustration on the stamp will look at how the ice caves might appear from the inside looking out toward the west at sunset.

The new stamps will be issued Saturday Jan. 18, 2020. Customers may purchase stamps at Post Office locations nationwide or online at usps.com/shop.
