Are you the next Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood? American Idol is holding open auditions in Baton Rouge Hilton Sunday, just a season after Livingston Parish’s Laine Hardy became the first American Idol from Louisiana.
Patrick Lynn, American Idol Senior Supervising Producer, says hopefuls should come prepared with three songs: a show-stopper, a ballad, and a more contemporary tune. And he recommends not wasting time -- singers should get right to the hook.
"Don’t spend a lot of time meandering at the beginning of a song that gets to a certain point that you want to show off," Lynn advised. "Get right into it, give us a verse and a chorus, something good."
Lynn wants contestants to keep in mind that it’s more than just your voice that makes a pop star. They’re looking for singers who have "it."
"Make eye contact and be a bit of a performer, because you don’t want to stand there with your hands in your pocket looking at the ground," said Lynn, "because no one wants to see that on TV."
The auditions begin at 9:00 a.m. and last through 5:00 p.m.
Lynn says everyone is welcome to show up and perform: "We’re going to be there all day and of course it’s free, so you have nothing to lose."
