COVID-19 in Michigan: Confirmed cases now at 57,532 and 5,516 deaths

Michigan health officials reported 135 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 Monday, June 1, 2020, bringing the total to 57,532.

The state also reported 25 new deaths from the virus. As of Monday, 5,516 people have died from COVID-19 in Michigan.

State officials said three times a week, the staff at Michigan Department of Health and Human Services review records that identify COVID-19 as a case of death. They then match the records with laboratory confirmed case of COVID-19.

As of May 29, a total of 38,099 people in Michigan have recovered from the virus. A patient is considered recovered when they are clear of the disease 30 days after initial onset.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer lifted the stay-at-home order on Monday.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services provides daily updates, about 3 p.m., on the status of COVID-19 cases in the state.
