COVID-19 in Michigan: Confirmed cases top 90,000 with 6,289 deaths

Michigan health officials reported 1,121 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, bringing the total to 90,392.

The state also reported 16 more deaths from the virus, including nine identified during a records review. As of Thursday, 6,289 people have died from COVID-19 in Michigan.

State officials said three times a week, the staff at Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reviews records that identify COVID-19 as a case of death. They then match the records with laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19.

As of Friday, Aug. 7, a total of 63,636 people in Michigan have recovered from the virus. A patient is considered recovered when they are clear of the disease 30 days after initial onset. State health officials report that Michigan labs have completed 2,440,044 tests as of Aug. 12, to check for infection by the virus, SARS-CoV-2, that causes the disease.

As of Aug. 11, there have been 7,718 confirmed cases among residents in long-term care facilities in Michigan. There have been 2,021 reported resident deaths in long-term facilities.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services provides daily updates, about 3 p.m., on the status of COVID-19 cases in the state.
