Businesses supporting black owned restaurants in Lincoln
Restaurants are navigating a global pandemic and civil unrest with protests, marches and riots. A few local places teamed up and are using social media to help support black owned restaurants in Lincoln.
It started as a social media post, but quickly went viral. The message was simple: "Support black-owned restaurants in LNK." The creator behind the post were a group of restaurants from a variety of backgrounds.
The original post includes 11 restaurants, but a second post includes nearly 20.
A couple of them were JuJu's Vegan Cajun & Creole Cuisine located south of Downtown Lincoln and Sarah's Southern Comfort Food at the Indian Center. Both businesses have different recipes and specialties, but they both want to make a positive impact on the community.
"Being a vegan, black business owner I will say has its difficulties obviously," said Derick Gaspard Jr., JuJu's Vegan Owner. "What I'm trying to do is break down the stereotypes."
"I'm so grateful for those who are showing up right now because I'm a black owned business," said Sarah Wells-Britt of Sarah's Southern Comfort Food. "But don't make it just because I'm a black owned business... find out who you are supporting.... who is that business."
If you're looking to grab some food, the best way is connecting with the businesses through their Facebook pages because of COVID regulations.
