PLAYING IN THE BACKYARD WHEN SHE SAW THIS...A GIANT, DEEP HOLE. SHE SAYS THE GROUND GAVE WAY AFTER THE FLOODING SUNDAY. SHES WORRIED THAT IT WILL GET WORSE WITH MORE RAIN. MARSHA WHITT SAYS HER KIDS WERE PLAYING OUTSIDE...WHEN HER DAUGHTER CAME IN A TOLD HER THAT THERE WAS A BIG HOLE IN TH GROUND "she goes, mom theres a big hole in the tree. of course im thinking...snake hole. butted she says no mom its big hole WHITT LIVES IN SPRINGDALE. SHE SAYS WITH THE HEAVY RAIN AND FLOODING, THE DEEP HOLE OPENED UP IN HER BACKYARD NEXT TO A LARGE TREE. so yea its scary. defintely scary. when i looked down the hole and saw it was so deep, plus you can hear water in it. its not something that i want to get close t SPRINGDALE WATER UTILITIES SENT A SURVEYOR OUT TO TO TAKE A LOOK, AND he saw it and his reaction was oh my gosh.. THE UTILITIES DEPARTMENT SAYS THE FLOODING CAUSED THE DIRT TO ERODE...REVEALING WHAT THEY SAY IS A HAND-DUG WELL THAT'S MORE THAN 80 FEET DEEP. THEY SAY IT WAS PROBABLY DUG DECADES AGO, WHEN THE LAND WAS A FARM..BEFORE THE SUBDIVISION WAS BUILT. SINCE THE HOLE IS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY, IT'S UP TO THE PROPERTY OWNER TO WORK WITH THE SPRINGDALE BUILDING DEPEARTMENT ON HOW TO FILL IT IN -- BASED ON CERTAIN STATE GUIDELINES

A woman in Springdale says that a giant hole opened up in her backyard following Sunday's flooding. Marsha Whitt says, "It was definitely scary. when I looked down the hole and saw that it was so deep! Plus, you can hear water in it. It is not something that I want to get close to."The utilities department said that the hole is an underground well that was probably dug decades ago, and it was almost 80-feet deep.Over time and with the recent flooding, the utilities department said the dirt eroded causing the hole to open up.
