Springdale Animal Shelter Groundbreaking

Animals needing to be rescued will have a new temporary home

A new animal shelter is coming to the city of Springdale. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 3:00 PM today, October 8th. The new site is more centrally located than the current one, and sits right on Don Tyson parkway. "Our facility is just showing its age a little bit. We are outgrowing it. Springdale is exponentially growing in terms people, and with more people comes more animals. In our new facility, we will have better frontage on Don Tyson, and we are close to new parks," said director of animal services Courtney Kremer.Voters passed a bond for the new shelter last year, and animal services has since gone through the design process, as well as the construction bidding process. Now, led by Nabholz construction, the shelter is ready to be built. The new building will offer a bigger space and new features for the animals."Our dog room is going to be laid out better which we are very excited about, and we're going to have green space for the dogs to go outside," said Kremer. "Our cats are going to have a little bit better quarters, and they're going to have a patio and an open cat room as well, so these are just things that we don't have the ability to do in our current location."Kremer says she expects the new shelter to be open by late 2020, or early in 2021.
