ART HELPED RAISE AWARENESS TODAY ABOUT DRUG ADDICTION AND RECOVERY. LOCAL ARTISTS, SOME WHO ARE RECOVERING ADDICTS THEMSELVES, SHOWCASED THEIR ARTWORK TO INSPIRE OTHERS AT THE SPRINGDALE TREATMENT CENTER. HERE'S WHY THEY'RE FILLING THEIR HALLS WITH ART AND STORIES OF HOPE. JULIE BOND BECAME ADDICTED TO OPIOIDS AFTER GETTING IN A CAR WRECK WHEN SHE WAS 30 YEARS OLD. SHE says she FELT TRAPPED IN HER ADDICTION FOR MORE THAN 8 YEARS. "It was like anything I touched I became addicted to I had a mid- meth crisis . if love worked if love was the only thing that worked there wouldn't be any addict and it's so much more common than people know" SHE BOUNCED AROUND FROM TOWN TO TOWN LIVING IN HER CAR UNTIL SHE FINALL GOT HELP. "you're trying to change every emotion every feeling every thought that you have and you've developed a certain pattern you've perfected this life as an addict and you're expected not to react. NOW SHE HELPS OTHERS WITH HER AR Of all the bad things that happened in my addiction it's a way to make it not fo nothing it's a way to reclaim the power that it took from me for so long and I can offer assistance to someone else and give them hope because I needed hope for a long time." CONNIE PHILLIPS WITH THE SPRINGDALE TREATMENT CENTER SAYS THE RECOVERY FAIR AND ADDICTION ART SHOW HELPS RECOVERING ADDICTS HEAL. "This is a deadly illness and if they don't have the support we've got to get rid of the stigma I lost a brother and believe me if there was any medication or anything he could take that he could be here today raising his sons I would want him to have it."
