LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The driver of a tow truck carrying another vehicle was killed in a crash on southbound Interstate 15 near the US93 turnoff Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3 p.m.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says its preliminary investigation revealed the white Isuzu tow truck, carrying a silver SUV, was traveling at a high rate of speed just before the crash. As the truck neared an Army National Guard vehicle, it failed to slow and struck the vehicle.

Authorities are unsure why the Isuzu did not reduce its speed. The driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.

NHP reduced traffic to one lane on the southbound side of the highway while troopers investigated.

A photo provided by NHP appears to show the cab of the town truck crushed behind the Army National Guard vehicle.

The Clark County Coroner will release the identity of the deceased driver after next of kin have been notified.
