LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Information provided by a Department of Health and Human Services dashboard revealed a large increase in COVID-19 cases at state-regulated facilities. The number of cases at these facilities statewide is 416, up from 289 on Friday.

Four Southern Nevada facilities — Horizon Health and Rehabilitation, Premier Health and Rehabilitation Center of Las Vegas, Silver Hills Health Care Center and The Heights of Summerlin — have reported dozens of cases.

Horizon Health and Rehabilitation shows the highest number of positive tests — 66 total –involving 32 staff members and 34 residents. Premier Health and Rehab has 40 positive tests, including 29 residents and 11 staff.

The Southern Nevada Veterans Home has reported 16 positive tests.

A memo posted by Horizon Health and Rehabilitation was sent days ago to reassure patients and their families, although it’s unclear when the memo was released. The memo says:

Over the course of the past several weeks we have implemented enhanced infection control practices and have restricted access to the facility to only essential personnel in an effort to prevent and reduce the risk of the spread of respiratory infections, such as COVID-19.

It appears before the number of positive cases went up at Silver Hills, the facility sent an update that read in part:

“…We have been in frequent contact with Clark County health officials and share this update with you because we believe it is important to everyone’s health and well-being to keep our residents, their families, our staff and the public fully informed.

As we have previously shared, we tested all of our residents and several members of our staff for COVID-19 on Wednesday.  We are informing our residents, their families and our staff of the test results.  Of the 91 residents and 26 staff members who were tested:

  • 37 residents tested positive for COVID-19, 53 residents tested negative and one test was inconclusive; and
  • 5 staff members tested positive for COVID-19 and 21 staff members tested negative.

We have received additional test kits and will test all remaining staff members early next week.

Our facility remains fully functional.  We have implemented several additional measures to provide for the care and safety of our residents and staff…”

Horizon Health has the most of any state-regulated facility in the report. Lakeside Health & Wellness, in Washoe County, has reported seven deaths — the most of any state-regulated facility. There are 46 positive tests at Lakeside.
