Perth's longest running Christmas lights show in jeopardy

The longest running Christmas lights show in Perth has hit a roadblock in in its 26th year of operating.
John Roe’s Marriot Way home in Morley is transformed into a festive display each Christmas.
Last year, 13,000 people turned out to see the show.

Mr Roe applied to the City of Bayswater for traffic management staff to shut down part of the street for 35 nights.
“We should stop through traffic at least in the busy period and early evening when young mums and dads are out with little kids,” Mr Roe said.
The request was approved, however council told the 76-year-old he would have to pay for the traffic controllers out of his own pocket.
Mr Roe would have to pay for more than two hours a night for 35 nights, which comes to $3500.
“I don’t have that money, I’d like the council to pay for it,” Mr Roe said.
The City of Bayswater denies it's being a Grinch - saying anyone who holds an event has to pay for their own traffic management.
