Perth community rocked by child gangs

Residents in Rockingham, in Perth’s south, say that they’ve been terrorised by a gang of teenagers and children for over a year and that it’s getting out of control.
One family, that wishes to not be identified, says it has been targeted almost weekly with children throwing rocks and bricks at their house.
Their damage bill has reached nearly two thousand dollars.
“It’s awful, it’s just unnerving because why us?” the homeowner said.

“What have we done? They just think it’s a game.”
Police have confirmed just two days ago there were two reports of teens throwing rocks at a truck and a car in the area.
Residents also claim up to a dozen kids regularly raid the nearby shops on Elanora Drive in Cooloongup causing havoc at the IGA, Chicken Treat and McDonalds.
An IGA staff member told 9News a group of youths have been banned at the shop and that it’s not the only store that keeps an eye out.
Whilst reporting on this story, a boy was seen threatening a car with a brick before turning to the news team and throwing a wood panel and a rock.
Another resident said she was frightened to leave the house.
“When I see the kids walk around the corner, I feel scared,” she said.

“We used to love sitting out the front and watching the world go by, but now I don’t”
Despite police patrolling Rockingham for antisocial behaviour, residents are pleading for more to be done.
“You just don’t know what these children are capable of, they’re getting more bored and more out of control,” one told 9News.
“They’ve got to do something about it, for the children as well as the parents.”
It’s not the first-time Perth residents have been harassed by child gangs.
Earlier this month a gang of boys and girls as young as 12 stormed through Cockburn shopping centre and vandalised several store fronts.
Police reported at least eight people were assaulted during the rampage.
Seven girls have since been arrested over the Cockburn assaults, all under 15 years old.
