Man charged with murder after hit-and-run death of single Perth father

A man has faced court accused of murdering one pedestrian and trying to kill another in a hit-and-run in Perth.
Michael Jon Delaney, 36, allegedly hit the two pedestrians with his car on The Avenue in Warnbro just before 1.30am on Easter Sunday then drove off.
Stephen Read, 42, died at the scene, while his 33-year-old friend Christopher Bennell was taken to Royal Perth Hospital after also being hit.

He remains in a stable condition.
Witnesses say Mr Read, a single father to a nine-year-old son, was trying to break up a fight when he was struck, with his friend Mr Bennell trying to move him off the road when he was also hit.

Delaney appeared in Perth Magistrates Court today charged with murder and attempting to unlawfully kill.
He was remanded in custody to appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court next month.
