In 2016 Washington DC welcomed a new institution to its famed National Mall: a museum dedicated to African-American history and culture.

The museum has proved wildly popular, attracting millions of visitors.

For some time there's been talk of developing a similar precinct in Australia to celebrate Aboriginal culture.

Indigenous tourism operators in Western Australia believe there's momentum gathering behind their push to build it in Perth.
