SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A 30-year-old Salt Lake City man is facing charges of aggravated assault after police say he hit a woman with his fists and a baseball bat, then returned the next day to have his friend beat her up. 

According to charging documents Justin Craft has been charged with felony aggravated assault, felony aggravated robbery and felony aggravated burglary for two separate incidents in November.

Documents state on November 18 he hit a woman in the face repeatedly with his fits, choked her and then hit her face with a baseball bat after an argument before leaving with $400 of the victim’s money.

The next day, Craft returned to the home with a man named Tyler Wade Sherriffs who was allegedly was holding a knife and forced the victim to go to the basement. While she was in the basement, he reportedly beat her while Craft remained upstairs and stole her property, according to documents. 

Sherriffs, also a convicted felon, is currently facing charges of first-degree felony aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.

Craft was also charged in 2016 for felony obstruction of justice for his involvement in a brutal stabbing of another inmate as he was seen sitting outside the cell during the attack prior to throwing away evidence. Another inmate was charged with the inmate’s murder and Craft’s charge was dismissed just prior to trial based on evidentiary issues. 

Craft was in prison from a former felony conviction in 2013 of aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary when Craft and two other men robbed a man and his mother inside their home at gunpoint. 

Craft additionally has been arrested for theft, possession of drugs, interfering with officers, burglary of a vehicle, criminal mischief, being in possession of stolen property and felony riot.
