SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Restaurant owners came to work on Tuesday morning and found their Pride flag vandalized.
The incident happened at the Laziz Kitchen at 912 Jefferson Street in Salt Lake City.
When they showed up to open the restaurant for business, they found that the flag had been torn up.
“It’s so sad to walk into a place we love under such a jarring banner of hatred and microaggression, but it won’t stop us – This is a place of love, acceptance, tolerance, and community,” one of the owners said.
Many have expressed sentiments of support and have even offered to give them a replacement flag, but restaurant owners said they only need one.
They are however accepting pride flag donations to share with other businesses and people who “want to proudly fly one above their doors.”
Laziz Kitchen is owned by married couple Moudi Sbeity and Derek Kitchen. The two paved the way for marriage equality in Utah when they successfully challenged the state’s constitutional ban on marriage for same-sex couples.
