SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Salt Lake City Councilwoman Erin Mendenhall has now officially launched her campaign for mayor.

Mendenhall made her formal announcement Sunday at the Salt Lake Center for Science Education. She has been on the city council for the past six years, representing district 5.

She says her focus will be stronger neighborhoods, smarter growth, and most importantly – cleaner air.

“I joined Utah mom’s for clean air that was the first step on the journey that brings me here to this day,” said Mendenhall. “I saw a need to move beyond shouting from the outside and to put a voice at the table that would speak for air quality that would bring scientific understanding to the conversations that we have on the hill in our communities and in our schools.”

Mendenhall is the 10th candidate to join the race for Salt Lake City Mayor. Other candidates include fellow councilman Stan Penfold, State Senators Jim Debakis, Luz Escamilla and six others.
