Jacksonville-area coronavirus updates: Jacksonville mayor says Fourth of July fireworks will go on, with social distancing

NORTHEAST FLORIDA, SOUTHEAST GEORGIA — More than 58,000 people in Florida and 47,000 people in Georgia have been infected with COVID-19, and the number of deaths from the outbreak continues to rise. Officials are attempting to contain the coronavirus outbreak in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.

Jacksonville mayor says Fourth of July fireworks will go on, with social distancing

June 4, 12:30 p.m.: Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry said there will be a fireworks show downtown for July 4th.

Curry said there will be multiple displays in multiple communities and the celebrations will be spaced out so everyone doesn’t have to crowd into one spot.

Curry said the city is working with local TV stations to get the fireworks broadcast online.

Free COVID-19 testing available at Yulee school Thursday

June 4, 8 a.m.: Free COVID-19 testing will take place today at Yulee Middle School from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
