Jacksonville high school teacher reportedly wrote profanities on whiteboard during class

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Duval County teacher is under investigation after allegedly writing profanities on the whiteboard during class.

Action News Jax got a tip that a picture of the words was on an Instagram story.

That photo is now gone. Parents and students of Lee High School in Riverside told us what they saw in class and online.

"The S-word and it could've been like a D-word." Alouch Moody said, referring to a photo her son showed her. He said it was written on a whiteboard during his intensive reading class.

TRENDING:

"My son loved her." Moody said. "It was just unfortunate that that happened."

Moody explained that she thinks the teacher had good intentions, but she could have used different terminology when trying to connect with her students."

"She was just trying to relay a message, in the terms that the kids can understand." Moody said. "I do feel like she could've used a different choice of words, but I understood where she was coming from."

Action News Jax spoke with five other parents who had different opinions.

"I mean it's not right regardless." Jackie Townes said. "That's not appropriate for students or teachers."

"That's not nice at all," said a grandmother, picking up her grandchildren. "It's not nice."

The teacher is currently being investigated and has been moved to a role where she does not interact with students.

"I thought it was extreme when he [her son] came home and told me the outcome of the situation." Moody said.

We reached out to the Duval County Public School System for further information. They said they called parents and left voicemails about the alleged incident. They released the transcript of the voicemail to Action News Jax:

"Hello Lee High School families, this is principal Feagins calling.

Some of you may already have seen some social media posts in which one of our teachers appears to have written profanity on a whiteboard.
I just wanted to call and let you know that I am aware of this.

The process of investigating this conduct and determining appropriate consequences has begun, and while this is being investigated, the teacher has been reassigned to duties without access to students.

From a personal standpoint, I can tell you that we have very high standards for the instructional experience here at Lee, and we will endeavor to meet that standard every day.

Thank you for your continued support of Lee High School and if you have any feedback or input, I encourage you to reach out to me through the school."

DCPS will not confirm what was written on the whiteboard or the name of the teacher.

They did say that if you are a parent and did not receive the above voicemail, please call and make sure your contact information is up to date.
