Jacksonville Lantern Parade: Light up downtown this weekend

The Jacksonville Lantern Parade will light up downtown this Saturday. Event organizer Joe White stopped by the Action News Jax studio to talk about the parade and how to participate.

Everyone in the community is encouraged to attend and walk in the parade or to watch from the sidelines. In addition to beautifully crafted lanterns there will be tons of other family-friendly events and attractions. Blend in with the crowd by wearing something that glows, twinkles or sparkles.

"At the event we'll also have food trucks, kids games, four or five bands, and a laser show," said event organizer and Jacksonville Magazine publisher and editor Joe White.

You can create your own paper lantern at home or at one of the lantern workshops happening across our area. Jacksonville Magazine will also be selling lanterns at the River City Arts Market.

Some other activities and attractions at the event include a fireworks display, the Tin Can Photo Lounge, a DJ, the Jax Mag Selfie Booth, kids games, food trucks, a best "illuminated" pet costume contest and much more!

Parade details:

Date: Saturday, Feb. 16.

Time: Parade is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A fireworks show will close out the evening.

Route: This 2-mile route starts at the Riverside Arts Market under the Fuller Warren Bridge and continues down the St. Johns River to the Jacksonville Landing.

What to wear: This is a completely outdoor event so dress for the weather - and don't forget to pack accessories that glow, twinkle or sparkle!
