Two 19-year-olds killed each other during an attempted gun sale, Anchorage police say

UPDATE 1 p.m. Tuesday:

The two people who apparently killed each other over a gun transaction Sunday were identified Tuesday by Anchorage police as 19-year-old Daniel L. Bender Jr. and 19-year-old Davon M. Dodge.

“No further details are being released at this time as the investigation is ongoing,” police said.

Original story:

Two men found dead on a West Anchorage street Sunday evening shot each other while meeting to talk about a gun sale, police say.

At some point, the two got into an argument and shot each other, the Anchorage Police Department said in an update posted Monday morning.

The men have not been identified, pending the notification of next-of-kin.

Officers responding to a report of shots fired just after 5 p.m. Sunday on the 2800 block of West 29th Avenue, between Turnagain and Wisconsin streets, found the men shot at a Dodge pickup parked in the street. One was inside, the other on the ground next to the truck.

Officers stopped a vehicle in the area and detained the driver for questioning, police said. The driver wasn’t involved and was released.

Detectives are not looking for any suspects.
