Anchorage man accused of using Craigslist to lure victims before robbing them at gunpoint

An Anchorage man accused of using the Craigslist online marketplace to lure people to a location before robbing them at gunpoint has been indicted on federal charges, prosecutors said Thursday.

On Aug. 24, Cloyd Lacap Jr., 21, arranged to meet someone selling a PlayStation gaming console on Craigslist at Balto Seppala Park in West Anchorage, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska said in a statement. Lacap then “conducted an armed robbery on the seller,” according to prosecutors.

The federal indictment states that later that day, Lacap robbed a different person at gunpoint — this time, someone trying to sell an iPhone, according to federal prosecutors. He arranged to meet them at the Rustic Goat restaurant, also in West Anchorage, according to the statement.

Lacap has been indicted on charges of interference with commerce by robbery and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, federal prosecutors said. He is in federal custody and awaiting his first court appearance on the charges.

“If convicted, Lacap faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison for the robbery offenses, and a mandatory minimum of seven years for the firearm offense,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
