Hail falls over much of Anchorage

A fast-moving cold front in Anchorage caused a fury of hail Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service reported.

Around 1:40 p.m., a short-lived hail storm brought a light covering of pea-sized hail to much of the city. The cold front had arrived in the municipality around 10 a.m. Wednesday, said Cynthia Kobold, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Anchorage. By 2 p.m., the skies had cleared, replaced by partially sunny skies and warmer weather as the cold front moved northeast of Anchorage.

Along with the hail, the cold front brought snow to the Glen Alps Trailhead, the first of the season below 2,200 feet, Kobold said.

More rain in Anchorage is not likely until Saturday, the weather service forecast.
