An Atlanta homeowner who shot an alleged prowler said the man was banging on his door so loudly he was afraid he was trying to break in.

Officers found Brandin Davis, 26, on the front porch of a home on Adair Avenue about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. John Chafee said. Davis had been shot in the shoulder.

The homeowner told police he and his wife were asleep when they heard someone banging and kicking at the front door. The homeowner got his gun and called police, Chafee said.

Davis continued to kick the front door and was causing damage to property on the porch, according to Chafee. That’s when the homeowner fired a shot through the door and hit Davis, Chafee said. He was taken to a hospital.

An officer at the scene said Davis seemed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Upon his release from the hospital, Davis was booked into the Fulton County jail, where he remains on a $2,500 bond. Investigators said he also had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on a traffic violation.

No charges are anticipated against the homeowner.
