The walk-on tight end in line for playing time at Alabama is no longer a walk-on.

Senior Giles Amos was put on scholarship on Tuesday.

The news was posted by several Crimson Tide players on social media, including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Amos, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound Perry, Georgia native, is in line to be one of Alabama’s top tight ends and had a touchdown catch in the first of the Tide’s two preseason scrimmages.

“He’s done a nice job,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said recently. “He’s tough and I think he can play a role for us this year. ... Giles has done a good job in taking advantage of the opportunity that he has because of the lack of depth that we have at that position. He’s gotten a lot of repetitions and he’s taken advantage of it.”
