Tuscaloosa's Westervelt Co. says it is completing plans for a new lumber facility in south Alabama which is expected to employ about 100 people.
According to an announcement from the company, a location and design of the new mill, are being prepared for final approval by the Westervelt's board. It is projected to produce approximately 250 million board feet annually.
The new mill will compliment the company's Moundville mill, which it says is the second largest Southern Yellow Pine production facility in the U.S.
President and CEO Brian Luoma said the company's customers are growing, which means it must grow to support them.
"The Westervelt Company has a long history in lumber manufacturing and environmental stewardship," says President and CEO Brian Luoma. "The expansion of our lumber business will continue to build on that legacy."
Westervelt is a privately held company founded in 1884 which is now under its fourth generation of family leadership.
