Original story:
We’re just a few days away from Alabama’s homecoming game, with the Crimson Tide hosting the Arkansas Razorbacks in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday.
Until kickoff, fans and alumni can enjoy the university’s rich traditions that come with each homecoming week.
The week began with the annual Roll Tide Run on Sunday and will conclude with the crowning of the 2019 Homecoming Queen during halftime of the Alabama-Arkansas football game.
This includes the parade, bonfire, pep rally, crowning, step show and much more. Learn about this year’s theme and schedule of events below, and visit homecoming.ua.edu.
Read the full schedule below:
THE 2019 THEME
This year’s homecoming theme is “Return of the Legends” which the homecoming website says embodies the 2019 Executive Committee’s vision for the homecoming experience.
“It is our sincerest wish for homecoming to engage The University of Alabama community in a cohesive celebration of the Capstone’s rich traditions,” the site says. “For this reason, the homecoming theme calls on us to celebrate the emphasis of our institution on familial traditions and athletic domination through honoring our home, which has brought about new growth and new ideas, and the legacy of community and The Capstone Creed in everything that we do.”
HOMECOMING QUEEN ELECTION (Tuesday, Oct. 22)
Homecoming Queen Elections will take place via myBama on Tuesday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Learn more about our candidates and to see their video platforms, visit the “Homecoming Queen Elections” page. For more information about elections, visit http://vote.ua.edu.
CHOREOGRAPHY COMPETITION (Wednesday, Oct. 23)
The annual choreography competition will take place Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 in Coleman Coliseum at 6 p.m.
PAINT THE TOWN RED (Thursday, Oct. 24)
Spirit Cup competitors will paint windows of local businesses along University Boulevard and throughout campus this week for the “Paint the Town Red” event that always sees creative and colorful designs honoring Bama’s past and present.
Painting should finish by noon Thursday. The windows will be judged by three faculty/staff members.
SORORITY LAWN DECORATIONS (Friday. Oct. 25)
UA’s sorority lawn/canvas decorations bring out some of the best pomping and designs you’ll see anywhere in the country. With the “Return of the Legends” theme, these creative teams will have plenty to work with in 2019.
Look for some incredible work by Friday afternoon, when the decorations are typically finished and on display in front of UA’s sorority houses on campus.
PEP RALLY & BONFIRE (Friday, Oct. 25)
The homecoming pep rally will start at 7 p.m. on the steps of Gorgas Library overlooking the Quad. Eli Gold will once again serve as the night’s emcee.
Nick Saban and Alabama players will appear, and Gold will announce the Homecoming Queen election results at the end of the pep rally.
Following the pep rally, the annual bonfire will light up the Quad.
HOMECOMING STEP SHOW (Friday. Oct. 25)
The National Pan-Hellenic Council is one of the most exciting annual events of the homecoming season, featuring eight NPHC fraternities and sororities battling it out on the stage in a series of intricate dance steps, vibrant music selections and elaborate show themes.
Tickets can be purchased at https://sltickets.ua.edu. The show will take place Friday at 7 p.m. (doors) in Coleman Coliseum. Performances will begin at 8:15 p.m.
THE PARADE!
The 2019 UA homecoming parade will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will run from Greensboro Avenue to University Boulevard. Get a good spot. See the photos from last year’s parade in the gallery at the top of this page.
THE GAME! (Saturday. Oct. 26)
Alabama will host the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday at 6 p.m. Tua Tagovailoa’s ankle injury will sideline him this week, so Mac Jones will start under center for the first time in his career. And another night game means we get to see that fancy light show again. Will they incorporate it into the halftime homecoming festivities? We’ll see on Saturday.
