Alabama police chief pretty much sums up Facebook in single post

Moundville Police Chief has an answer to those who question his department's use of sirens and lights: Stop.

Oh, and he's not a fan of Facebook either.

Chief Toby Banks asked his local newspaper, The Moundville Times, to post a message for him after people questioned why the department turned on lights and sirens Saturday night.

Banks wrote: "If anyone does not understand why the police department runs lights-and-sirens, please call me at the department, Monday through Friday, at 205-371-2218, so I can explain it to you. In the meantime, my department will continue to run lights-and-sirens in emergency situations, especially those when people's lives are in danger.

"On Saturday evening, June 23, we responded to a call about a woman being trapped in a vehicle after a crash on Highway 69. Several people took to Facebook to complain about Moundville Police Department speeding and using lights and sirens to get to the scene," he added. "Let me say again that we will continue to respond to emergency situations promptly, safely, and using our emergency lights and sirens. I thought that everyone knew what to do when police, fire, or emergency medical vehicles approached their vehicles, but apparently not. Please call me at the office if you have any questions on our procedures."

Banks, who has been police chief of the small Hale County city since 2017, added one more line that apparently summed up his feelings about social media.

"I asked the Moundville Times to release this statement on their Facebook page because I do not have Facebook for a variety of personal reasons, including the number of people discussing things they really don't know much about."

For the record, neither the Moundville Police Department or Banks are on Facebook.
