It’s Valentine’s Day, a time for love and romance, right?
That may not be the case if you live in Alabama, however.
About 45 percent of all U.S. adults are single, according to Wallethub, which recently released its report on 2019’s Best and Worst States for Singles.
To determine the rankings, Wallethub compared the 50 states across 28 key indicators of dating friendliness, ranging from the share of single adults to movie costs to nightlife options per capita.
Overall, Alabama’s score was among the lowest in the country, putting it in 43rd place. While the state rated high for percent of single adults and gender balance among singles – 18th and 19th highest, respectively – it didn’t do well in other areas.
Coming in after Alabama were Alaska (44); Mississippi (45); Kentucky (46); Wyoming (47); North Dakota (48); Arkansas (49); and West Virginia (50).
The best states for singles were Florida, California and Texas.
Alabama ranked:
30th for restaurants per capita
37th for median annual household income, adjusted for cost of living
41st for movie theaters per capita
44th for crime rate
46th for mobile dating opportunities
46th for online dating opportunities
