Inmates ‘Pinky & the Brain’ plot Alabama courthouse bombing, Walker County sheriff says

Terry Hammond

Terry Hammond has been charged with plotting to bomb an Alabama courthouse and kill law enforcement personnel.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office says it has broken up a plan by two jail inmates to detonate bombs inside the courthouse killing members of the sheriff’s department and court system.

“The plot involved two inmates – who had given themselves the code names ‘Pinky & The Brain’ – working together to create several ANFO (ammonium nitrate/fuel oil) bombs,” the sheriff’s office announced Friday on its Facebook page.

Charged with four counts of making a terrorist threat were inmate Bryant Wayne Williams Jr., 29, of Jasper and inmate Terry Keith Hammond, 56, of Jasper.

Bryant Williams

Bryant Williams has been charged with plotting to blow up an Alabama courthouse and kill several law enforcement personnel.

The plan was for one of the men to bond out of jail, gather the items needed for the bombs and “instructions on how to create the devices,” the sheriff’s office said. The primary targets were four sheriff’s department commanders and investigators, Walker County judges and the district attorney. Secondary targets were the sheriff’s office itself and the public defender’s office.

Hammond was the owner and operator of the Jasper radio station WQJJ 101.9 Fox-FM, the sheriff’s post said, and he was a previous administrator of the Facebook page “Walker County Area News.”

Bond has been set at $500,000 cash for both men. Williams was already in jail for attempted murder, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, resisting arrest, attempting to elude and violation of a protection order. Hammond was jailed on charges of assault, criminal mischief and theft.

"We take all threats very seriously, especially a terrorist plot such as the one that was being planned here,” the sheriff’s office said. “More than just conjecture, this is a solid case where we were able to obtain covert recordings of the discussions and documents, along with cooperating witnesses and defendants.”
