The August combination of heat and humidity will be back in full force in Alabama today, and it will send the heat index to hazardous levels for some areas.
There are two heat advisories in effect in Alabama, one for northwest Alabama and another for part of central Alabama.
The north Alabama heat advisory will be in effect from noon until 7 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.
It includes the counties of Lauderdale, Colbert and Franklin.
Temperatures are forecast to hit the mid-90s today, and dew points will be in the lower 70s.
The combination of the two will send the heat index as high as 107 degrees, according to forecasters.
For central Alabama, the heat advisory includes Autauga, Bibb, Chilton, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lowndes, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Shelby, Tuscaloosa and Walker counties.
It will be in effect from noon until 9 p.m.
Temperatures in those areas are expected to climb into the mid- to upper 90s this afternoon, and the heat index will max out anywhere from 104 to 109 degrees, according to the weather service.
There are no heat advisories in effect today for south Alabama, where rain chances will be higher.
