Fog -- even freezing fog -- possible in parts of Alabama this morning

Driving in fog

Fog may be thick across parts of Alabama this morning -- and it could cause slick spots in the northern part of the state.

It’s a foggy morning across much of Alabama, but the fog could be especially hazardous in parts of north Alabama.

Temperatures there are hovering around freezing, and the National Weather Service is warning of the possibility of freezing fog in some areas.

Freezing fog could cause bridges and overpasses to become slick in some spots, forecasters said.

Elsewhere in Alabama the fog may not be freezing but it could be thick at times, and dense fog advisories were in effect for a large part of south and central Alabama:

Fog advisories

The Alabama counties in dark gray were under a dense fog advisory on Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service also issued a special weather advisory on fog for north Alabama.

The fog is expected to burn off later this morning, and sunny skies are expected to prevail through the rest of the day, according to the weather service.
