Alabama added 524 coronavirus cases since yesterday with more than 100 from Tuscaloosa County alone.

The Alabama Department of Public Health’s May 27 9:30 a.m. numbers show 15,718 COVID-19 cases in the state. There have been 580 deaths, up 14 from yesterday.

Tuscaloosa County added 105 cases, bringing its total to 612. Montgomery County added 85 cases for a total of 1,396. Other large increases were seen in Bullock (+28); Jefferson (+23); Walker (+24); and Mobile (+22). ADPH’s

Dr. Karen Landers said while some of the recent increase reflects more testing – the state has conducted 194,970 tests with 4,974 in the last two weeks – it also reflects “clusters (and) outbreaks associated with entities,” such as hospitals and nursing homes.

Landers urged continued caution as the state continues to open the economy.

“We cannot say whether some increase is due to relaxed rules as this is still being analyzed,” Landers said. “The message is ongoing that social distancing, respiratory hygiene such as hand sanitizing, masks when out in public, and assessing health risk factors remain the measures we currently have to reduce the spread of this virus.” Here are the latest county-by-county numbers from ADPH.
