Miguel Alonso, a north Alabama teen who went missing while fishing on Wednesday, has been found dead in the Elk River, the authorities said.

Emergency crews found Alonso’s body in the river this morning, said Stephen Young, a spokesman for the Limestone County sheriff’s office. It’s not yet clear how 16-year-old Alonso died.

“This investigation is not over,” Young told AL.com.

Divers had been searching for Alonso since Thursday. Family reported the teen missing because he didn’t return home from fishing on Wednesday.

The teen was last seen fishing on the river bank near a boat ramp at the end of Elk River Road in the Clements area of Limestone County. It’s located near the Lauderdale County line.

At the river, deputies found some of Alonso’s fishing gear, but the teen wasn’t there.

Further information wasn’t immediately available.
