Man killed in Red Mountain Expressway rollover crash identified

A man was killed Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, in a single-vehicle crash on Red Mountain Expressway southbound between Highland Avenue and 21st Street.

A young man killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Elton B. Stephens Expressway has now been identified.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Byron Deaunta Blackmon. He was 24, and listed a Moundville address.

The crash happened about 5:30 a.m. Birmingham police and firefighters responded to the wreck in the southbound lanes about 5:30 a.m. and found Blackmon dead on the scene.

Birmingham police Sgt. Bryan Shelton it appears the victim lost control of the vehicle and struck the interstate wall. The vehicle came to a rest upside down off the roadway next to the rock mountain.
