There will be no criminal charges filed in the August shooting death of a wife and mother inside her north Birmingham home.
Mia Heard, a 49-year-old mother of three adult children, died about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18.
North Precinct officers responded to the house at 1029 34th Street North on a report of a shooting. Once inside, found Heard suffering from gunshots wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived and pronounced her dead on the scene.
Birmingham police initially said Heard died in a domestic homicide. On Friday, Sgt. Johnny Williams said after detectives presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, it was ruled there was not sufficient evidence to pursue murder charges in her death. “The case of Mia Heard will be placed under unclassified death status,” Williams said.
