Brighton man, 27, identified as victim found shot to death on Birmingham street

A 27-year-old Brighton man was shot to death Monday, June 17, 2019, on Court M in Birmingham.

A Brighton man has been identified as the victim found shot to death in the middle of a Birmingham street Monday night.

Michael James Weeks was 27, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Birmingham police and fire medics were dispatched at 8:15 p.m. Monday to the 4800 block of Court M in Ensley. Residents in the neighborhood heard gunshots and called 911.

After making the emergency call, authorities said the residents went outside to investigate. They found the wounded Weeks in a vehicle that had rolled back into another vehicle. They pulled him out of the car, but were unable to save him. Weeks was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:31 p.m. by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

No arrests have been announced.

The killing marks the 55th homicide in Birmingham so far in 2019. Of those, at least seven have been ruled justifiable and therefore are not deemed criminal by the Birmingham Police Department. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 83 homicides, including the 55 in Birmingham.
