Man found dead in Ensley street is Birmingham’s 55th homicide in 2019

A man was shot to death Monday, June 17, 2019, in the 4800 block of Court M.

An investigation is underway after a man was shot to death in the middle of a Birmingham street.

The deadly shooting happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 4800 block of Court M in Ensley. The city’s West Precinct officers responded to the neighborhood on a report of a person shot.

The slaying marks the city’s fourth since Friday.

Birmingham police spokesman Officer Rod Mauldin said the victim, whose identity has not been released, was found on the ground beside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

No additional information was released. Mauldin said no suspects are in custody.

The killing marks the 55th homicide in Birmingham so far in 2019. Of those, at least seven have been ruled justifiable and therefore are not deemed criminal by the Birmingham Police Department. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 83 homicides, including the 55 in Birmingham.
