A man was taken into custody Monday after police say he chased his girlfriend with a gun and fired shots into the air with Birmingham police nearby.
The incident happened about 4 p.m. in the 500 block of Rutherford Circle in South Roebuck. East Precinct Lt. Michelle Pruitt said officers were dispatched to the neighborhood on a report of a domestic dispute. A female victim ran to a neighbor’s house and her boyfriend apparently tried to follow her.
Pruitt said the suspect fired shots into the air but did not shoot at his girlfriend or at police. No one was injured.
The suspect was taken into custody at his home, which is about two houses away from where the victim sought. He was handcuffed and placed into a police cruiser for transport to the Birmingham City Jail.
At least one family member of the normally-quiet neighborhood was visibly angry, saying he has been complaining to police about unsavory activity at the home where the suspect lives.
