Man hit by train, killed on Birmingham railroad tracks

A man was killed Sunday night when he was struck by a train in Birmingham.

The accident happened at 8:38 p.m. in the 2000 block of 16th Street North, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. Birmingham police and medics responded to the crash site after railroad workers called 911 to report someone had been hit while walking on the tracks.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:15 p.m. Coroner’s officials said his name is being withheld until they can find his relatives.
