68-year-old pedestrian hit by car, killed in Birmingham

A 68-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle early Tuesday.

The crash happened at 5:45 a.m. at First Avenue South and 32nd Street, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. Authorities said the man was walking on First Avenue when he was hit by a vehicle.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:02 a.m. Authorities have identified him through fingerprints but are withholding his name until they can notify his next of kin.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and is cooperating with authorities.  Birmingham police are investigating.
