A Kansas City mother of three with strong ties to Alabama has been missing since Aug. 1 and family members are praying she will be found safe.

Marilane Carter, a 36-year-old graduate of Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School and the wife of an Overland Park pastor, was last seen about 8:15 p.m. Saturday when she left home headed toward Birmingham, according to the Overland Park Police Department.

Her brother-in-law, Brady McLaughlin, said Carter was coming to Birmingham to seek mental health help and that they believe she had reached out to Grandview Medical Center and/or UAB to set that up. The last known telephone contact with family put her in Memphis near Interstate 55 about 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Since then, McLaughlin said, there has been no contact and no vehicle sighting. Her phone is dead and there have been no credit card charges or bank activity.

Carter is married to the Rev. Adam Carter who is the lead pastor of Leawood Baptist Church in Kansas. The couple has two young sons and a daughter. The children are being cared for by family members while Carter’s husband is helping in the search for her. She also has family members in Fairhope.

Carter was driving her gray 2011 GMC Acadia with Kansas license plate 194LFY. She is 5-feet, 8-inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds. She has long brown hair and green eyes. She was last known to be wearing a green t-shirt and black yoga pants.

Police said she had made concerning statements to her family. A Facebook page called Find Marilane has been set up to share information, tips, and leads.

“Marilane’s husband and three children, as well as our entire family, just want to know that Marilane is safe. We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of prayers and support,’' McLaughlin said. “The biggest way to help now is to share this story, share any leads or information with law enforcement and pray that God orchestrates a path for her to be found safely.”

Anyone with information on Carter’s whereabouts is asked to call 911.
