Montgomery QB Club sets fall schedule

The Montgomery Quarterback Club has announced its 2019 fall schedule.

The Club will again meet on Tuesday nights at the Capital City Club in downtown Montgomery, with the season kicking off Sept. 10 when Andy Burcham, the Voice of the Auburn Tigers, speaks.

On Sept. 17, Tony Barnhart, Mr. College Football, will speak.

The final September meeting on the 24th will feature retired Army Maj. Gen. Dick Burleson, who was an SEC official for 25 years.

On Oct. 1, Lauren Sisler from ESPN, SEC Network and Alabama Media Group (AL.com) will be the speaker. On Oct. 8, Troy head football coach Chip Lindsey will speak. Oct. 15 has been designated Ladies Night. Back by popular demand is Leigh Anne Tuohy, the family matriarch of the Tuohy family featured in the movie, “The Blind Side.” On Oct. 22, ESPN’s director of recruiting Tom Luginbill will be the speaker. The last speaker for October will be Ivan Maisel, ESPN senior writer.

On Nov. 5, Brittany Wagner will be the speaker. Brittany was the inspirational school counselor in the Netflix series, Last Chance U. On Nov. 12, two former quarterbacks will speak. John Parker Wilson, former Alabama quarterback, and Charlie Trotman, former Auburn quarterback, will discuss the upcoming Auburn-Alabama game and share some of their Iron Bowl memories. The season closes out on Feb. 11 with the Annual Awards Banquet. Tennessee Defensive Coordinator Derrick Ansley will be the featured speaker. Coach Ansley is a native of Tallassee, played at Troy, and coached at Montgomery’s Huntingdon College early in his career. Ansley later went on to coach under Nick Saban at Alabama.

The Club will once again present a public school and a private school Player of the Week at each of its meetings. Players are selected from the river region of Autauga, Elmore, and Montgomery counties. The selected players, their families, and their coaches attend the awards presentation.
