Alabama quarterback signee Bryce Young has steadily moved up the national recruiting rankings for the last six months.

He can’t move up any more, at least according to 247Sports.

Young is now the No. 1-ranked player nationally in the Class of 2020, according to the updated 247Sports rankings released today.

In addition, two other Alabama signees -- Dutchtown (Ga.)’s Will Anderson, a defensive end/outside linebacker signee, and defensive tackle signee Timothy Smith of Sebastian River (Fla.) – also received a fifth star. Anders moved up to No. 5 nationally and Smith is No. 28, according to 247Sports’ updated rankings.

Alabama signee Drew Sanders, from Ryan (Texas), remains a 5-star prospect, which gives Alabama four 5-stars in its Class of 2020 signees, according to 247Sports’ updated rankings. Defensive end/linebacker signee Chris Braswell, meanwhile, moved down to No. 39 and is listed as a 4-star prospect.

The moves up the rankings by Young, Anderson and Smith also moved Alabama to No. 1 in the 247Sports Team rankings for the Class of 2020.

Young, the 5-star prospect and early enrollee from Mater Dei (Calif.), threw 58 touchdown passes and ran for 10 more during his final high school season. The 5-foot-11, 183-pounder is expected to immediately push for playing time in the spring practice battle to replace Tua Tagovailoa.

Other quarterbacks in that race include Mac Jones, Tua’s back-up last season, and Taulia Tagovailoa, Tua’s younger brother, and redshirt freshman Paul Tyson, the great-grandson of Alabama coaching legend Paul “Bear” Bryant.

Young was named the 2019 High School Quarterback of the Year by the National Quarterback Club, and he was also named the All-American Bowl Player of the Year before winning the MVP award at Saturday’s high school all-star game in San Antonio, Texas.

As a senior at Mater Dei (Calif.), Young completed 294-of-409 passes for 4,528 yards – a 348.3-yard per-game average – and 58 touchdowns. He added another 357 rushing yards and 10 more touchdowns.
