Coastal Alabama Friday Roundup: No. 4 McGill girls knock off No. 3 Davidson

Fourth-ranked McGill-Toolen survived a poor shooting night to defeat No. 3 Davidson 37-32 on Friday night in a battle of top 5 Class 7A girls teams.

Both teams shot less than 50 percent from the field and the foul line.

The Jackets led just 16-14 at the half.

Reserve Gigi Cole provided a needed spark off the bench with eight points and several timely key plays. Sanola Mixon and Nya Valentine also chipped in eight points. Valentine knocked down two fourth-quarter 3-pointers to help seal the win.

Kelsey Thompson lead Davidson with eight points. The Warriors defeated McGill 45-44 last month at McGill.

McGill hosts Booker T. Washington of Pensacola at 4:3 p.m. Saturday.

OTHER GIRLS GAMES:

FOLEY 53, SPANISH FORT 39: The Lions matched their win total for all of last season. They are now 11-2 overall. Kaitlyn Knight led all scorers with 23 points. Foley will host Escambia, Fla., at 2 p.m. Saturday.

B.C. RAIN 45, BALDWIN COUNTY 36: Elsie Harris scored 19 points and Aalayah Lucy and Zoya Patton each had 10 for the Red Raiders. Niya Boykin had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers (6-7). Kaleigh Boykin added 10 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and three assists. B.C. Rain plays at Daphne on Monday. Baldwin County plays at Foley on Tuesday.

ST. MICHAEL 50, ELBERTA 20: Maggie Lollis led the way with 15 points and five blocks, while Lane Raley added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Barter scored 10 points and collected five steals.

FAITH ACADEMY 50, ST. PAUL’S 18: Aaliyah Austin had 19 points and 15 rebounds for the Rams. Destiny Sanders had 10 points and 13 rebounds and Kellyn Hunter had 10 points. Brittany Sharpe had 12 for the Saints.

BOYS

UMS-WRIGHT 80, MOBILE CHRISTIAN 58: Trey Bonham scored 26 points in the first half as the Bulldogs built a 48-26 lead and cruised to the win. He finished with a game-high 31. Keyshawn Woodyard followed with 12, and Chapman Johnson and Martin Montgomery each had eight.For Mobile Christian, Rashod Robinson scored 13. Next week, the Bulldogs will be participating in the Oak Mountain Invitational in Birmingham.

FAITH ACADEMY 50, ST. PAUL’S 35: Caullin Lacy led Faith with 18. Travis Kidd added 10. Trent Thomas had 11 for St Paul’s. Faith is 2-0 in the Class 5A, Area 1 and 7-7 overall. St. Paul’s is 0-2 in the area 7-3 over all. St Paul’s was 14-of-28 from the free throw line. Faith Academy 7-of-12.

ROBERTSDALE 56, CHICKASAW 52: Ro Settles led the team with 14 points and seven steals. David Lynch added 11 points and 13 rebounds. Brandon Francis led the Chickasaw with 16 points. The Golden Bears (5-10) travel to county rival Foley on Monday.

BAKER 61, MGM 50: Kriston Davis scored 31 points as the Hornets, down by as many as 15 in the second quarter, rallied for the win. Davis hit five of Baker’s 10 3-pointers. The Hornets improved to 8-6 and 2-0 in area play. Alfonso Hires had 21 for the Vikings and Jaries Brown had 10. Baker plays at Cottage Hill at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY 69, MONROE COUNTY 34: Lue Williams had 23 points for the Blue Devils (7-1). Allen Patterson added 11 points. Jordaun Patterson chipped in nine points and seven assists.

SARALAND 62, BAYSIDE ACADEMY 40: The Spartans led from start to finish. Corey Darrington and Colby Wright each had 14 points. Will Murphy led the Admirals with 10. Saraland plays Fairhope at home Tuesday.

GULF SHORES 62, BALDWIN COUNTY 49: Garner Tampary hit four 3-pointers in the first half as the Dolphins took command. He finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists. Cade Brown had 13 points and four assists. Trace King chipped in 10 points and five assists. Baldwin County’s Terrance Jones led all scorers with 17 points. The Dolphins also beat Alma Bryant 59-50 earlier this week. Gulf Shores was led by Tampary’s 11 points and four assists and Brown’s 11 points, six rebounds and three assists. Kade Hassler added 10 points and eight rebounds. Judah Wilson also had 10 points. Alma Bryant’s George Foster led all scorers with 21 points. Ayden Adams chipped in with 15.

B.C. RAIN 68, BALDWIN COUNTY 56: Aaron Powe scored 19 points and Demetrice Hardin had 13 as the Red Raiders improved to 7-5. Jaquan Sanders followed with 13 and Jonathan Williams had 10. Keyon Palmer led Baldwin County with 13. Tarrance Jones had 10.
