The skinny: This is the first regular-season meeting between the tradition-rich programs, although they met in the 2010 and 2011 5A semifinals, splitting the meetings. ... Class 5A, No. 1-ranked Briarwood blanked Wenonah 29-0 last week for its second consecutive shutout. The Lions are allowing just 3.0 points per game, the lowest average in 5A and second-lowest in the state among all classes. ... Jonah Carroll threw three TD passes against Wenonah, two to Vanderbilt commit J.R. Tran-Reno. ... Class 6A, No. 7-ranked Hartselle should be rested after an open week. ... The Tigers lean on the run game, with quarterback Luke Godsey (241 yards, 3 TDs) and running back Keondre Swoopes (212 yards, 5 TDs) leading the way. Swoopes is a three-star cornerback.
Huffman (1-4) at Hewitt-Trussville (4-1)

Where: Hewitt-Trussville Stadium, Trussville
The skinny: The teams haven't played since 2013, when Hewitt-Trussville won 59-22. ... This is Huffman's third road game in the last four weeks. ... Hewitt-Trussville has won four straight. ... Hewitt QB and Alabama commit Paul Tyson has completed 102-of-147 passes for 1,497 yards with 14 TDs and interception, while also running 18 times for 64 yards and two TDs, and senior WR and Auburn commit Ja'Varrius Johnson has 36 catches for 743 yards and six TDs.
Oak Mountain (1-3) at Pelham (2-3)

Where: Ned Bearden Stadium, Pelham
The skinny: Oak Mountain has suffered consecutive losses to Thompson, Hewitt-Trussville and Hoover, three of the top four ranked teams in this week's Power 25 rankings. ... Pelham won 42-41 when the two teams met in 2013. ... Both teams have beaten Chelsea this season. ... Oak Mountain freshman Evan Smith has show big-play ability as a runner and passer. ... Pelham has scored at least 42 points in all three wins this season.
Vestavia Hills (3-1) at Shades Valley (2-2)

Where: Frank A. Nix Memorial Athletic Complex, Irondale
The skinny: Shades Valley has won two straight, beating Huffman and Stanhope Elmore on the road. ... Vestavia will try to bounce after falling to Mountain Brook last week. ... Vestavia's Cooper Bishop ran 19 times for 156 yards, including TD runs of 74 and 21 yards, in last week's loss to Mountain Brook. ... Shades Valley scored 35 points in both wins and just seven points in both losses.
Hazel Green (2-3) at Gardendale (3-2)
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Where: Driver Stadium, Gardendale
The skinny: This is the schools' first meeting. ... Both teams have a first-year head coach, as Gardendale is led by Chad Eads and Hazel Green is led by Smitth Grider. ... This is Gardendale's fourth home game of the season. ... Hazel Green set a single-game school scoring record with a 78-35 victory over Lee-Huntsville two weeks ago and then scored just three points in last week's 37-3 loss to Athens.
