Gorillas take cover at South Carolina zoo as rain pours in viral video

Updated

It turns out that gorillas, like many of us, don't like the rain either.

In a viral video shared by Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, S.C., a group of gorillas are seen taking cover under a canopy as heavy rains pour down. One gorilla peeks out from the dry enclosure while holding her baby, before determining that the weather isn't getting any better.

One by one, the adult gorillas — four in total — make a run for somewhere dryer by sticking close to a wall, as amused zoo visitors look on. The video, taken by mammal keeper Brooke Hunsinger, captures each gorilla's priceless reaction as they seek cover.

Hunsinger, who originally posted the clip on her Facebook page, recorded the gorillas on May 3, when temperatures were over 80 degrees. Thunderstorms, however, ruined what would have been a perfect day for the herbivorous apes.

"Gorillas are magnificent, majestic creatures full of grace and beauty...except when it rains," Hunsinger joked in her post. Her video has since been liked more than 43,000 times and shared over 100,000 times.
