South Carolina airports celebrate Aviation Week

Numerous events are scheduled around South Carolina for the state’s Aviation Week celebration that recognizes the economic impact and educational inspiration provided by aviation. Aviation Week is planned in partnership by the South Carolina Aviation Association and the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission.

Several events were on tap for Aug. 21. From 9 to 11 a.m., Orangeburg Municipal Airport will celebrate its impact on commerce in Orangeburg County, and airport officials will recognize legislators for bringing about a runway project to make the airport a general aviation airport of choice. Rock Hill-York County Airport will celebrate Aviation Week by taking select reporters on a discovery flight. Hilton Head Airport  will hold a customer appreciation lunch at FBO Signature Flight Support, sponsored by The Beach House and featuring a boxed lunch and chef specialty tables from noon to 1:30 p.m.

On Aug. 22, Spartanburg Downtown Airport holds an open house from 9 a.m. to noon. See AOPA's Aug. 14 story on the event.

Horry County invites aviators to fly in to Conway-Horry County Airport in Conway on Aug. 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch and to experience the services available to the growing GA community in western Horry County.

On Aug. 24 there will be free Young Eagles flights at Georgetown County Airport from 8 a.m. to noon. Visit Seven Rivers Aviation, 129 Airport Road, Georgetown, to pre-register. Airshow performer R.T. Dickson Jr. will fly two aerobatic routines, weather permitting, and a North American T–6 Texan will be on display.

On Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. pre-registered Boy Scouts will visit Fairfield County Airport in Winnsboro for events to earn aviation merit badges. The event is sponsored by S&S Aviation.
