Missouri American Water Beginning Three Infrastructure Upgrade Projects in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 25, 2019--Missouri American Water has begun three projects to upgrade infrastructure in its Jefferson City district at a combined investment of approximately $1.3 million.

The three water main projects, including replacements, additions and upsized mains, will ensure Missouri American Water continues to provide safe, reliable water service to customers in Jefferson City.

  • Dunklin Street – In conjunction with bridge work, Missouri American Water will be replacing 1,400 feet of 10-inch cast iron with 12-inch PVC water main. The goal is to improve water pressure for customers in the area, and to work in conjunction with city planning with regard to road projects. In addition, a planned second phase will replace an additional 1,200 feet.
  • Dix Road and Williams Street – Missouri American Water will be replacing 1,300 feet of 8-inch cast iron with new 8-inch PVC on Dix and 12-inch PVC on Williams Street. This main has a history of multiple water main breaks, so the new main will ensure reliability.
  • Missouri Boulevard and Highway 50 – We plan an addition of 185 feet of 8-inch main to connect a pair of mains that have a gap and provide redundancy in the case of emergency.

“We are always studying our water system for ways in which we can improve it, and these projects help us do that,” said Scott Brewer, construction supervisor for Missouri American Water. “We also understand that the city does not want us to come in and tear up a freshly laid road to repair or replace a water main, so we try to work with them to do our work in conjunction with their work wherever feasible.”

Work on these projects generally will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will be a few evening hours in high traffic areas to avoid an inconvenience to our customers. Weather-pending, the projects are expected to be completed by early July, with restoration of any disturbed land to be completed within 90 days of project completion.

During construction, customers might experience temporary water service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower-than-normal water pressure. For more information, contact Missouri American Water at 866-430-0820.
