Jon Bon Jovi to induct Southside Johnny into the New Jersey Hall of Fame

They’re having a party and Jon Bon Jovi’s invited.

Bon Jovi will induct Southside Johnny Lyon into the New Jersey Hall of Fame during the Sunday, Oct. 27 ceremony at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, Southside’s camp and the Hall have confirmed to the USA Today Network New Jersey.

Bon Jovi, Class of 2009, will be among friends. Carl Gentry, a member of Bon Jovi’s side band the Kings of Suburbia, will lead the house band at the Hall ceremony.

“When I grew up, I wanted to be a Juke,” said Bon Jovi, via southsidejohnny.com. “I still want to be a Juke.”

Bon Jovi and Southside have often performed together on Jersey Shore stages through the years.

As for the rest of the new Hall of Fame class, other inductees include the Smithereens; “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin; TV personality Martha Stewart; “Seinfeld” star Jason Alexander; Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez; restaurateur, musician, philanthropist Tim McLoone; long-time Star-Ledger sports columnist Jerry Izenberg; and “Jaws” author Peter Benchley, who is also going in posthumously.

The show actually begins in the Grand Arcade between the Paramount and Convention Hall around 5 p.m. as the red carpet action heats up. Some balcony seats for the Paramount ceremony are still for sale. Visit apboardwalk.com for more info. 

“They’re going to see some of the most high-profile personalities on the planet walking up that red carpet,” said Steve Edwards, president of the New Jersey Hall of Fame. “People from all walks of life, actors and actresses, sports legends and iconic people -- lots of exciting personalities.”

The inductees were voted in by the NJHOF board and by a fan vote.

Upcoming, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes play Soundwaves at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City on Nov. 22 and the Count Basie Center in Red Bank on New Year’s Eve.

Bon Jovi is working on a new album with his band. He recently helped judge the al JBJ Soul Kitchen Chili Cook-Off on Oct. 5 at the JBJ Soul Kitchen in Toms River.
